Greater New Orleans Gamers History

My love of science fiction got me into gaming.  I started buying games at SIFI conventions as early as 1980.  The first game I remember buying is Conquest of Space.  Soon afterwards I bought Cosmic Encounters.  I was hooked for life.  My earliest gaming partners were Bob his wife Brenda and his brother Tommy.  I also introduced my wife Ann to the board gaming hobby.  Ann and I were making trips to Bob and Brenda's house and they to our house on a regular basis in the late 80s.   We continued to meet over the years and were joined by Don and his wife Dorie in the 90s.  Around the turn of the century two things happen that increased my enthusiasm for gaming.  First I discovered the Board Game Geek website. Second, Board Game Geek led me to a local gaming club in my area, The West Bank Gamers.  I learned about German Style Games from the West bank Gamers.  I introduced my game group to German Style games which they really enjoyed.

About the Greater New Orleans Gamers

For a history of our group read the article above.  We are made up of a group of friends who meet at my house in Metairie, LA. for a gaming session about once a month.  We have anywhere between 6 and 20 people attend our game sessions.   Many of our members bring their spouses, who also enjoy playing games.  Most of our group enjoys light strategy board and card games in the line of Formula Mini De, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride and Category 5 (Take 6).  If you are interested in these kinds of light strategy games and would like to attend one of our sessions please contact me at maucoin@aol.com.

1/17/07  RAJ - I been looking at this out of print game for a long time and it was worth every penny on Ebay.

1/5/07  Blokus, Yspahan, Cosmic Coasters - Order from Boulder Games.  Blokus is Good but Yspahan is even better!

11/06   Drakon, Clock Towers, Wooly Bully, Zeus on the Loose, Combo King

9/28/06  Prophecy, Masons

7/15/06 Tutankhamen, Cleopatra and the Society of Architects, Mykerinos, Castle Keep, Winners Circle

4/23/06 Loco, Take it Easy, Tower of Babel

4/17/06 Oh Pharaoh, No Thanks, Deflexion

4/15/06 Walk the Dog: I purchased this game from the only online store that sold it so shipping was high.  It is a good filler and the kids love it.

3/1/06 Vegas Showdown, Diamant, Cloud 9, Hoity Toity, Starship Catan, Saboteur, RA, That's Life

1/22/06 Loot   This was a game recommended by a friend.  It is a light game and I couldn't pass up the price ($5).

12/31/05 Pickomino  I played this one at the West Bank Gamers Christmas party and had to have it.  This is a good filler.

12/31/05 OltreMare  I have been wanting this game a long time. but didn't like the small size of the first and second edition.  The third edition is finally a decent size.

12/31/05 Alhambra My wife likes this one so we had to have it.  Any game she will sit down to play with me is a good game.

12/31/05 Poison  I have not played this one yet but it looks like a good filler.

12/05 Three Dragon Ante  I enjoyed this game and bought it from the local game shop.

12/26/05 Parlay  This is a cross between Texas Hold'em and Scrabble.  I got the game as a West Bank Gamers gift exchange.

10/3/05 Nexus OPS  I ordered this Avalon Hill game from the National Games Week site.  It will be on the table for National Games week.

8/9/05  Guillotine I played this one at a local game shop and bought it from the same shop.

8/5/05 Plunder:  Purchased at Crescent City Con.  The rules seem vague. I'm not sure if I will find anyone to play this with.

8/5/05 Ice Cream:  This was also purchased at Crescent City Con.  I played this with my wife a daughter.  I will have to play it again before I can rate it.

8/5/05 Aquarius: Third game of three I bought from Crescent City Con.  Only played this with 2 players.  It seems like it would be fun with 4 or 5 players.

Goa:  I won this from Ebay and it is worth every cent I paid for it.  I have been playing this game every weekend.

Easy Come Easy Go: This filler game is perfect for early arrivals.

Acquire: Another Ebay acquisition.  Several people in my game group gave this old game high ratings.

7/18/05 Shadows Over Camelot:  Received this as a birthday present.  Shadows is a great cooperative game.  I have played this with the West Bank Gamers and hope have it on the table during my next game night.
