Gaming report - February 4, 2006                            Back to New Orleans Gamers Home Page

This was was an impromptu session as we sent out the invitations only 24 hours in advance.  Even so we had nine gamers in attendance.

Roll Call: Ann, Michael, Denise, Ron, Cindy, Jan, Steve, Leo and Chris.

Two tables were set up in our gaming den and five games were played.  Here are the session reports:

Pickamino

Denise, Steve and Jan arrived early so we picked this short filler while waiting for the others to arrive.  The Object of Pickomino is to capture domino size tiles that contain yummy worms.  each tile has a number ranging form 21 to 36 with higher numbered tiles containing more worms.  To capture the tile you have to roll the number on it but you must also roll a worm on the dice or you bust.  After your first roll you must decide which set of dice you are going to keep.  A set consist of a group of the same numbers or a group of worms.  Once you set the set aside you can continue to roll, however you must take a different set from the sets you took on previous rolls.  The rules allow you to steal tiles from other players but only the last tile they have captured.

In our game tiles were being stolen right and left.  In the end Denise wound up with the largest stack of tiles totaling six worms.  Steve had five worms. Jan had one worm and I had zero worms.

Fearsome floors

Players: Ronnie, Michael, Steve, Chris

Steve suggested this game.  Ronnie and Chris had never played before.  I was able to get two of my pieces to safety but alas the group baited the monster in my direction and my other two pieces were eaten.  This allowed Ronnie to win with 3 safe pieces, I was in second with two and Chris Made it out with one character.  Steve while good at baiting the monster didn't get any of his own pieces to safety.

Ticket to Ride

While we were playing Fearsome Floors, Jan, Ann, Cindy, Denise and Leo played Ticket to Ride.

Leo and Cindy were new to this game.  Cindy missed the rule about connecting the cities on your tickets and so created the longest road and scored lots of points for laying track.  It seemed like the game would go to her until the final scoring.  With no cities connected she lost all the points on her tickets!

Final Scores: Ann - 95, Jan - 93, Leo - 87, Denise - 46 and Cindy - 28.

Carcassonne

Players: Chris, Steve, Jan, Michael, Ronnie and Leo

Denise had to leave early and Ann and Cindy wanted to talk so the remaining six of us played Carcassonne.  This was a new game to Ronnie, Chris and Leo.  This game became a farmers battle.  I barely managed to get two of my farmer in the mega field for a tie with two other players.  My third farmer was cut off because of a clever play from another player.  I was unable to close the two major cities that I had join up with Leo. I also had a road with Steve that we were unable to close.  Thus I ran out of meeples.  This hurt me at end game because I kept drawing Cloisters.

Final Scores: Leo - 65, Jan - 61, Steve - 59. Michael and Chris 57 each and Ronnie 39.

Relationship Tightrope

It was getting late and Leo had to leave so we played our final filler.  Ron was a master at this game getting one of the lowest scores I'd ever seen.  Please see the scoring by round on the right.
