Gaming report - August 15, 2008 Back to New Orleans Gamers Home Page
Roll Call: Ann, Michael, Mikey, Don, Dorie, Bob, Scott, Joe, Carol, Karl and Hilda
On the table: Ta Yu, Claim It!, Quicksand, Surf's Up, Dude!, Dominion.
Another great turn out with 11 players and five game sessions. I was busy teaching some new games so I only got to play two of them.
|
Joe and Carol arrived early. We talked a while waiting for others to arrive. When Don and Dorie arrived they stated a game of Quicksand with Ann, Joe and Carol. I heard most players figured out everyone's secret identity. At the end Dorie pushed Don over the finish line. |
Claim It!
Bob and Scott arrived while Quicksand was being played so I started the three of us on a game of Claim It! Bob busting on a couple of early turns and never did recover. I claimed a large piece of territory in the north and Scott claimed the south. Scott and I locked in our territories which split Bob's area in half. In the end I won. |

Ta Yu Karl and Hilda were the last to arrived so I started them on a two player game of Ta Yu. Hilda had the upper hand in the beginning of the game but Karl came back for the win. I didn't get the scores but Karl and Hilda seemed to enjoy the game. This type of puzzle game is right up Karl's alley. |
Surf's Up, Dude! Players: Bob, Scott, Joe, Carol, Don and Dorie Karl and Hilda were still playing Ta Yu so I taught a six player game of Surf's Up, Dude! We started by watching a YouTube video which explained the rules. The waves were really breaking fast in this surfing game. I kept hearing the chant Shark! Shark! Shark! just before each dice roll. Everyone was new to this game so it took a couple of rounds to get use to it. In the end it was Carol who won with her many surfing trophies. The scores are listed below. .

Dominion Bob wanted to try a game of Dominion. We played with the suggested "first game" set of cards. Mikey teamed up with Scott, Bob and I played separate rulers. The game was over fairly quickly with Mikey/Scott beating me by a few points. Bob had a slow start not realizing he had to discard all his "unplayed cards". |
